Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which debuted in 2003 and made US$654 million worldwide in box office revenue, was well-received by both reviewers and audiences.[1] Walt Disney Pictures announced that a film series was in development following the box office success of the first movie. Three years later, in 2006, the franchise’s second movie, dubbed Dead Man’s Chest, debuted and immediately broke box office records all over the world. With nearly $1.1 billion in box office receipts worldwide, Dead Man’s Chest emerged as the year’s top film. Disney released a fourth movie in the series, At World’s End, in 2007 after the third one, which earned $960 million.
