Designer Roger Sweet named the character “He-Man” on purpose to make him abstract and general enough to fit into any genre or setting. Sweet also purposefully made the character abstract when creating him. After three iterations of the figure—a soldier, a spaceman, and a barbarian—were presented to Mattel, the barbarian version was eventually picked and transformed into the character that we know today.
